I’m in the middle and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Last year I wrote about what I call the power of the middle:
“This is where you take everything you’ve learned so far from your work with clients and marketing and sales activities and distill it into a powerful focal point.”
I’d seen this happen with the many entrepreneurs I’d worked with as a coach and strategist but I’d yet to experience it myself.
Since I started minimalist biz in February 2022, I’ve done a number of workshops, worked with different clients, and written about decision making, selling, minimalism, focus, simple models, choices and other related topics that I find interesting.
I’ve been in the exploration sandbox.
This is a drawing I shared a few months ago.
I’m happy to report that my middle model has emerged.
If you’ve read my emails in the past few months, you might guess where I landed: I’m focusing on positioning.
I’ve been thinking about how I got here and I realize that minimalism and positioning are both at their core about being choosy. About being deliberate, discerning, and decisive based on what you value, on what matters most to you in life and business.
When you define your business positioning, not only do people understand why they should choose you, it means you also get to be choosy about who you work with.
“Our positioning last year was so good at getting us more of the clients that we want.”
~ Kelsey Gilbert-Kreiling, Co-Founder, Week of the Website
As I’ve explored in the past 18 months, I’ve learned a lot, had loads of ups and downs, been confused, frustrated, excited, curious to see what emerged.
Looking back, I can see how I ended up wanting to focus on positioning.
And when the co-founders of Week of the Website – Kelsey and Mallory – approached me last month to do a repositioning for their next level of growth, it was just the sign I needed.
By sign I mean, the supporting evidence that positioning is a force multiplier.
Kelsey and Mallory unquestioningly invested in working with me again because they experienced the value of positioning firsthand.
And it’s something I love doing.
What's your sign?
If you’ve been in the sands of exploration for a while, your sign is likely right around the corner.
- The client you loved who worked with a few years ago comes back for more help.
- The underlying theme of all the things you’ve been thinking about becomes clear.
- A ‘difficult’ client decides to stop working with you.
- You get an amazing testimonial where your client highlights the thing you most enjoy doing.
- And who knows what else…as long as it fires you, even if only a bit.
Until that sign comes up, have a look at all you’ve done and written in the past few years.
You may find a meaningful pattern that could point you to your middle.
